Kill Your Darlings (movie review)

Hey guys!!

Sorry I missed last Friday, but I'm here today!! And I'll post this Friday too, so stay tuned!
I was on vacation (yeeey!!), you get me right! ;)

Anywaaaays, today I have yet another movie review from you guys, coming straight from my Top 5 Movies I Need To Watch NOW! list!!

I will say, I feel like I don't have much to say about this movie because it left me completely speechless. I reached the end and stayed for like 15mins looking at the screen without a reaction! (yes, I looked like a maniac...)
It's one of those movies that just leaves you in this state of... I don't even know how to describe it!!

The acting was simple genius!!
Dane DeHaan is one of my all time favorite actors. There hasn't been one time I've seen him act that I went "hum, it was ok". He is always fantastic! His acting was so strong and memorable, yet so natural. His character was my definite favorite, and he playing it was the cherry on top.
Lucien is one of the most intriguing characters I've ever encountered. His so toxic, and you can tell that from pretty early in the movie. Yet, you never cease to be fascinated by him. Just like everyone else in his life.
He is exiting, scary, dangerous, sexy and extremely appealing.
One of those you can't escape from even if you want to.

Allen Ginsberg, on the other hand, feels like a total lost puppy, which makes him adorable to watch (and Lucien's pray, obv).
He is hurt by a  complicated household, and even though he feels guilty about it, he knows he has to go live his life and find himself. He wants excitement and fun, to find something to believe in and do something about... well, something.
Daniel Radcliffe is simply perfect for the role! His acting was on point, to the point where it felt like there was no acting at all.
I feel like he keeps getting better and better. It's so interesting to me how I remember seeing him start with the HP series, going from an young inexperienced kid, to an older more mature actor trough out the movies of the saga, and now seeing him reach even higher! I love Harry Potter, but this is an entire other level.
Many times, when actors do big blockbuster series like HP, they either get stuck in the level and never move up (and eventually fall into oblivion), or they just lean on it and try to get squeeze has much out of it as they can (cause why work...).
Well, Radcliffe did neither! He kept going strong, getting better and better, and now he is up there with the best! Yes, you can't help it to think of cute little Harry when you see him (I mean, he was so adorable! And they are great movies, some of my favorites!), but that lasts for like 5 seconds. After that, you're so immersed in whatever other great performance he is giving that it just vanishes from your mind.

The plot and all the mystery surrounding it was pretty good, and the other actors where are extremely well picked (in my very humble opinion, ofc!).
But my favorite part of the whole thing is definitely the era it all happens in. I love the 40s! And I love books, and literary movements. And I love history! And I love seeing the real habits (pretty, or not) that people, specially creative people, had back in the day. Not that they changed a lot tbh, it's just the hows and whens and all that are different. Still, that makes a huge difference to the watcher. I get really inspired.
Not that drugs, alcohol and things like that inspire me, that's actually far from what I mean. It's the atmosphere that does.
And more and more I believe that you can get that same atmospheres without needing to use any non healthy substance.

OK, so it does seem like I had a bit more to say than I thought... haha!!
Anyway, to finish it off, I'll give this movie a 4.9 out of 5!
Part of me wants to just give it a 5, but, for a reason  I don't really know, something tells me not to... I guess I'll have to watch the movie again and figure it out!!
