Hey guys!!
So, ya'll know about my kdrama obsession, right?? I mean, you gotta, it's a given!
And so, yes, today, I have another kdrama review for you! I haven't done one in a while so... Here it goes!!!!!
This review will be on the on-going kdrama, Who Are You: School 2015.
Very summarized, the drama is about this girl (Lee Eun Bi) who was bullied in school so badly she tried to end her life for it. But she didn't know she actually had a twin sister, who had disappeared not too long before(Lee Eun Byeol), and who (apparently - still not 100% sure, but it seems like it) saved her from drowning herself.
Eun Bi looses her memory for a while, and Eun Byeol's mother takes her in, thinking she is Eun Byeol, who is still missing (at, at some point, believed dead - not by me tho, I'm pretty sure she isn't dead...).
So, Eun Bi is now living the life of Eun Byeol, which is full of mystery...
Okay, now that you're acquainted with the show, my thoughts!
I am 100000% IN LOVE with this show! The acting is amazing, the plot is fantastic and there hasn't been a thing that has disappointed me yet!
I really appreciate how bullying takes a big part in this show. And not in that "informative way" that we heard about almost everyday. You know, people on TV saying it is bad and what not.
Sure, those things will touch the people who are bullied. But that's not just the point. The point is also getting to the bullies themselves!
Having them see what they do, what it can lead to and what can end up happening to them. It's much powerful this way.
Because bullying is something that has been brought up so much in the past 10 years or so, yet without much impact, it is time to start taking another approach to it.
Lectures and experts opinions aren't gonna cut it! Kids don't listen to those! You have to show them, make them be confronted with their own actions, or their friend's actions or whoever's actions.
This show does just that. It's so raw and real, it makes you cringe! Unless you have no human side in you, you can't be indifferent to it.
Eun Bi is bullied, yet Eun Byeol was friend with people who were bullies themselves. And she herself might have been one at some point actually, still not sure... There a lot of things I'm not sure about in this show! (but that only makes it better!)
Another part of this show I really love is the way they're approaching Kong Tae Gwang (one of the male leads) and his situation with his father.
Because his parents weren't careful when he was a kid, he ended up listening to some pretty nasty stuff, and that marked him for life. He is said to have some psychological issues, which is half true half not really true for me.
To me, the issue is that he suffers so much because of the bad relationship with his dad (who is being a jerk btw) and missing his mom, that he makes himself a target (he keeps making this really weird dude, that could use some anger management classes or smth, to beat him up) so that he can forget about it all.
It's another way of self-harm to be honest. Only he doesn't do it himself, he provokes other people to do it.
Even so, he is an adorable and sweet person on the inside! He just needs someone to be there.
There are so many situations like this in real life, and they're not given any attention to! So I'm glad this show is touching subjects like this.
Oh, and if there are two characters any student can relate to, those are Park Min Joon (classmate) and Lee Shi Jin (one of Eun Byeol's bffs)!
Min Joon is the typical nerdy guy, he is class president and has the best grades! But, has anyone, he isn't perfect, and sometimes fails. When that happens, his mom goes crazy! Which, obviously, makes him very nervous and depressed. Being a "good grades" girl myself, I do understand what it is to have to deal with the high expectations. It isn't easy having everyone expect from you nothing less but perfection! We're only human! And I'm pretty sure many people can relate to this!
Shi Jin is an average student who has no idea at all of what she wants to do/who she wants to be! And god have I met many people like this... She tries! She is sweet and nice and hardworking, not some slacker! But she just doesn't know what she wants to do at all, so she is struggling a lot. And this is very common on high school teens, I'm pretty sure lots of people will understand her! And it's also something I don't see being approached a lot.
Now, another thing (well, person actually) that I have to mention: the amazing acting of Kim So Hyun!
This girl is crazy talented, and she is only 15 (she'll be 16 soon I think)!!!!!
Her acting is so intense, yet natural! It's touching, it's funny, it's cute and it's whatever in has to be whenever it has to be!
She is simply FANTASTIC! And if she is already like this at such a young age, I have no idea how she'll be in some years... But I can't wait to find out!!!
OH, and besides being amazingly talented, she is also adorably cute and has great fashion style! And sings!! Ah, can you say superstar???
The kdrama School series has been famous for it's rawness in exposing problems that teens go trough during school years, mostly high school.
This is the 1st drama of the series I'm watching, but after it's finished I'm definitely watching the other one's!
I'm specially curious about the older ones, because they're supposed to be a really realistic example of what school life used to be (in South Korea), some years ago - and I just find that supper interesting!!
Finally, I'll give this drama a solid 5/5 so far!
It's become one of my all time favorites, and I just hope the last 8 episodes don't disappoint!
Well everyone, that was it for today!
Did you enjoy the post? Hope so!
