(note: sorry I missed the last two Fridays guys! I was travelling at had no time to do a post!! But I'm back again, so here's a post for you all! And I'll post this Friday too!!)
1st things 1st: if you have no idea what Becoming Jane is... it's a movie, stop reading this, go watch it and then come back.
OK, now that that's out of the way: Becoming Jane is one of my all time favorite movies!! Not only it has two of my favorite actors in this world (Anne Hathaway and James McAvoy), but it's set on an era that I love: the regency era. And it is about the life of Jane Austen, the famous writer of Pride and Prejudice. Recipe for something brilliant, right?
Not too long after it came out (which was in 2007) I remember watching it, and liking it, but since I was much younger it kind of flew away from my mind after a while.
From then on, I watched a bunch of scenes from it many times, on YouTube and what not, but I haven't seen the full movie in a long time. Until like 6 months ago, when it came on TV and I decided to watch the full thing once again.
And I can tell you this: I have watched about 20 times since then! And no, I'm not kidding.
Anne Hathaway is literally my acting idol! I look up to her so much, and I really do feel like she is one of the best out there right now.
And you have to admit: she was the PERFECT Jane Austen!! I can't even imagine anyone else playing her anymore!
I really feel like she caught the spirit of the writer, the irreverence and the innovation of her character.
Even though I love pretty much anything Anne Hathaway is in, this is by far one of my all time favorite projects she has done!
Can you say FREAKING HOT??
To me, this is the movie where James McAvoy looks his absolute best!!
His acting is so great (in my opinion, ofc!), and you just can't help to completely fall in love with his character! Tom Lefory is probably one of the most charming men in the history of movies!!
This is one of those movies that leaves me with that "sometimes I really feel like I was born in the wrong era" feeling.
I mean, can anyone please tell why it is that there are no guys like Lefroy anymore? At least I know none!
And I can count by the finger of one hand (and I might not even need them all) the number of girls I know that are anything like Jane.
It's not like I would really like to live in that era when it comes to things like the woman's statute in society (which was pretty much none), and many many other conservative things like that. And yes, I do really enjoy my technology!
But when it comes to love? Relationships? And I don't mean the fact that most of them were planned by parents, cause that's a thank you but no thank you.
I mean the courtesy. The shyness. The little games of "you can almost see it, you can almost touch it... but you don't". The letters. The secret meeting in flower gardens.
The simple beauty of a young and innocent love.
Now? Please! You have 5 year old kids kissing, talking about sex and being rude to girlfriends/boyfriends!
Innocence? Right! Beauty?? Right!! LOVE??? RIGHT!!!
It could be just because they heard it and see it on TV and just play around and all. But it isn't. Because when they grow up, when they become 15, 18, 20, 25... it gets worst!
There's no courtesy at all! Many people aren't even polite anymore!
I just miss it! And yes, it is possible to miss something you never had. Because I miss it. That beauty, the love, the passion, the flames, paired with the control and caution... I just miss it!
And I wish it'd come back.
